Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) is a prescription medication used to treat opioid use disorder, but it must be taken with care to ensure safety. Do not take Suboxone if you are allergic or hypersensitive to buprenorphine or naloxone. Suboxone can cause serious side effects, including respiratory depression, coma and death especially if taken in higher doses or combined with substances like alcohol, benzodiazepines, or other sedatives. Always inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking to avoid dangerous drug interactions. Suboxone can cause dependence and withdrawal symptoms if stopped abruptly. Follow your provider’s instructions to taper off gradually when discontinuing. Common side effects include nausea, dizziness, constipation, and headaches, but serious allergic reactions, such as swelling or difficulty breathing, require immediate medical attention.
Store Suboxone securely to prevent abuse, misuse, diversion or accidental ingestion by children, which can be fatal. Avoid operating heavy machinery or driving until you know how Suboxone affects you. Regular follow-ups with your healthcare provider are crucial for safe and effective treatment.
